What's the story behind the hat?

The brand new single and title track from the debut album by Chasing Twisters is a mad tale of storm-chasing and gigging around Tornado Alley. It was written by guitarist and vocalist Craig Chapman after encouraging a former band-mate to play a solo with more gusto in the recording studio. “Play it standing up!” he instructed, and it sounded instantly awesome so Craig said, “you’d play it even better in a hat!” Michael Jackson’s be-hatted silhouette in the Smooth Criminal video was the inspiration for the line,“my silhouette says I’m cool”. Capturing the confidence that wearing a hat gives cowboys and gentlemen alike, the song created a moment for all band members to don a hat during a stage performance.
