Jump Right In To Skinny Dip Creek!

“Skinny Dip Creek” is a feel-good country summer anthem about the perfect party night - jumping in your truck with your mates, dropping the tailgate, playing music, cooking up some food and having a great night at your favourite waterside hangout - Skinny Dip Creek! It's our new single released Friday 17th April, and the opening track of our album "Better In A Hat". It's an uptempo party-by-the-lake song, with a blend of Country & Latin rhythms, that we introduce live as being “about taking off your clothes and jumping in some water.”

Songwriter Craig says, "I had the music mapped for this song before 2010, whilst playing in UK melodic rock band Tara’s Secret, sort of criss-crossing Matchbox Twenty’s “3am” with the stadium melodic rock of 38 Special’s “Tour de Force” album - both great Florida bands with more than a hint of country in their songs."

"When that band split I joined Ashby country covers band Hartland. I country’d the riff up a bit and added lyrics, with the band’s singer Dawn Jacques adding the 2nd verse lyrics, experimenting with Lady Antebellum and Sugarland style male and female lead vocals. We played it live a couple of times, before I left that band to form a specific country originals band, which became Chasing Twisters."

Craig continues, "Being the first country song I really set out to write, the lyrics really are a jigsaw of “modern country” song lyrics (isn’t most of Nashville?), whilst the choppy chugging, slightly Bossa-Nova rhythm guitar, and the melodic guitar solo hopefully echoes my favourite guitarist, Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special."

Noticing many country songs had similar lyrics depicting trucks with dropped tailgates, cooking food on a camp fire, and having fun by the water, Craig realised American country artists have it easy. He says, “‘I drove my truck to Tuscaloosa’ already sounds like a country song but ‘I reverse parked my hybrid in Chipping Sodbury’ doesn’t work so well, so we have to be a bit imaginative with our lyrics here in the UK!” So he put all these American country key words together like a jigsaw, telling a story of remembering hot summer nights down by the creek and played it to a chord sequence Sugarland would be proud of! We love the cheeky element to the song and Laura's teasing vocals, "showing way too much flesh, my oh my!"

"The middle 8 break down, with it’s Johnny-Cash-style drawl always catches first listeners by surprise, before we burst into the solo. The song has featured in every Chasing Twisters live show so far, and can also be found on our “Better In A Hat” debut album, available from online music stores and on CD from our shop. The video was great fun to make, just being ourselves at Tubby Studios."

A previous version of the song was promoted in 2022 from our first demo EP, 'You're Melting Me', but we completely re-recorded the track for our debut album “Better In A Hat,” after playing it at least 80 live shows. We’re timing the release of the track with our appearance at Country On The Coast Festival on 18th April where we are thrilled to be playing the main stage on Saturday night along with Katy Hurt, Jack Browning, Ryan Evans and more. We're so excited about what this summer holds and we'll definitely see you down by the creek!
